Triad AU will meet on Jan 28, 7 p.m. at Polo Park Recreation Center. The presenter will be Mr. Greg Malhoit, retired Professor of Education Law at North Carolina Central Univeristy School of Law. Mr. Malhoit will speak on the issue of school vouchers.
The North Carolina Legislature is poised to begin awarding vouchers to students to attend private schools. Many of these private schools will be faith based. This use of public funds for vouchers being drawn from the public school budget is a controversial issue. We are fortunate to have Mr. Greg Malhoit, a retired law professor of the NCCU Law School, to present his perspective on vouchers as our speaker at our January 28, 2014 meeting. While at the NCCU Law School, Mr. Malhoit headed the civil litigation clinic and taught Education Law. Prior to his tenure at NCCU, he was the director of the North Carolina Justice Center and the North Carolina Education and Law Project. Ms. Page McCullough of Public Schools First recommended him as a person well acquainted with the Legislature’s passage of the voucher legislation. He is also familiar with the law concerning the constitutionality of school vouchers.
The Triad Chapter of Americans United meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month from September through May at the Polo Park Recreational Center. The center is located at 1850 Polo Road, Winston-Salem. NC 27106. The Board meeting is at 6:00 pm and the program begins at 7:00.
