From speaker Shanon Simpson: “City of Asheville Public Works were first responders in disaster response alongside fire, police, EMS and other agencies before, during and after Hurricane Helene hit the area. We cleared roads, debris and assisted with search and rescue. We assessed damages to city facilities, private facilities in the floodplain and infrastructure and completed countless emergency repairs. Two years later, we are still removing debris and managing large recovery projects to repair and rebuild, a process that will take several more years. This talk will cover the challenges we faced and continue to experience while conducting this work.”
