Ecclesiastes
Ecclesiastes is one of the most strikingly honest voices in the Hebrew Bible. The Teacher looks squarely at life’s impermanence and the limits of human striving, calling much of what we chase “vanity”—a breath, a vapor. Yet this realism isn’t despairing. It invites us to release illusions of control and to find meaning in the grounded gifts of daily life: work done with integrity, shared meals, companionship and moments of joy. Rabbi Andrew Ettin’s presentation highlights how Ecclesiastes pushes past easy religious answers and instead offers a mature, spiritually honest path shaped by humility, gratitude and the courage to live fully in the present.
Gathering and informal conversation begins at 9 am. The presentation/discussion begins at 9:15 am.
