Antonio Reid will present a talk entitled, People, Police and a Chance for Peace.
American police are the most violent and brutal among police within the 27-member Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD.) These countries include Canada, The United Kingdom, France, Germany, Estonia, and Mexico among others. The US witnesses the highest number of people fatally shot by the police each year. The number of fatalities from American police is unique in both the developed and developing world. And the impact of this targeted brutality has landed disproportionately on the doorsteps of Black, Brown, and poor people across the country. Please join me in looking at the facts that compose this crisis and the measured steps that are being taken to mitigate the legacy and impact of police violence in Winston-Salem and around the US.
