THIS WEEK’S TOPIC
“The Covenants We Keep, Part 2”
During March, the services are dedicated to the concept and practice of a common covenant. This reflects a shared effort between me, the Worship Committee, and the Committee on Ministry. In each service, the Fellowship’s covenant created in May 2016 will be read by various members of the Fellowship.
I deeply applaud the Committee on Ministry’s effort to help the congregation become more aware of the Fellowship’s Covenant and its importance for the Fellowship’s well-being. A Covenant of the Fellowship is one way – and one of the most important ways – to create a common identity and sense of solidarity. With beliefs varying widely among UUs, it is good to express our unity and common assumptions where those can be found.
I enormously enjoyed and appreciated hearing a member of the congregation express what the covenant meant to them. I look forward to more of these testimonials from members.
In the second sermon of this series, I will tell a story from early in my ministry that formed my understanding of covenants’ value. I look forward to exploring this with you Sunday.
I look forward to seeing you Sunday.
