THIS WEEK’S TOPIC
“Jesus: A UU Perspective”
We are deep into the season of holidays. Hanukkah began December 10 and will run through December 18; Christmas is on December 25, and Kwanzaa, an annual celebration of African American culture, runs from December 26 to January 1.
We seek to navigate this holiday season under the constrained conditions of COVID-19 and to honor (or not) one or more of these traditions.
Christmas looms large in the calendar of holidays. In honor of this fact, I will explore the figure of Jesus, who lies at the center of the Christian tradition. I will give a UU perspective based on my decades of observing the effect of Christianity on individuals’ lives and our culture. I will explore some of the historical roots of Christianity compared to its contemporary expressions. Who was Jesus? What does this itinerant Jewish wisdom teacher have to say to us today? Can UUs be Christian? What is the place of the teaching of Christianity – or any religion – in a UU setting?
I look forward to exploring these issues with you this Sunday.
Speaker: Rev. Ed Brock
