Rev. Ed will focus on the case for growth. There is abundant data to suggest that there should be more UU congregations and that UU congregations have a lot of growth potential. This data is found in surveys conducted by the Pew Research Center and other similar organizations. What these surveys tell us is that a significant number of Americans have values and opinions which align with UU beliefs. Additionally, these surveys tell us that traditional church organizations – both protestant and catholic – are in significant decline. There are a significant number of people who are ‘looking’ for a religious community, who are distrustful toward traditional forms of religious organization, and who are ripe for participating in a UU congregation. We need to think differently and respond to the opportunities social change is giving us.
