Committee Chair Meetings with GSTF

Online

The Governance Systems Task Force (GSTF) is hosting small group discussions with Committee Chairs regarding the policies of the Fellowship. The goal of the Governance Systems Task Force is to research and recommend changes to our policies that will clearly define both how decisions are made and who has the authority to make those decisions. We seek your feedback on how to clarify roles and means of accountability. This is an opportunity for lay leaders to help us design a system that works best for our Fellowship so that we may fulfill our mission, together. These meetings are by invitation only, however if you are not a Committee Chair but you are interested in attending, please contact Janet Loew at GSTF@uufws.org. Links for the Zoom will be sent to participants via email the morning of the event.

Humanism with Heart

Online

As adherence to traditional forms of religion has declined in recent years, many have begun looking for other options to provide a sense of purpose and direction. In part because of its non-mystical and rational emphases, Stoicism has started attracting more attention. This ancient Western path is not a philosophy of esoteric knowledge or abstract subtleties. Rather, Stoicism is an approach to life that tries to answer the most important questions related to human growth and flourishing. What things are best to focus on in life? How can I effectively control my negative emotions? What is the best way to deal with adversity? How do I grow in wisdom, justice, courage, and balance? Come join us as we watch a short video on Stoic rules for daily living and then discuss this ancient but pragmatic philosophy for active people. Use this link to join the Zoom meeting https://www.uufws.org/virtual-humanism-with-heart
Humanism with Heart is hosted by the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Winston-Salem (https://uufws.org), offering free thinkers an opportunity to connect, reflect and serve. Please email humanism@uufws.org for more information.

Covenant: Your Input Matters

Online

You Belong to the Fellowship, the Fellowship Belongs to You - and as an integral part of our Fellowship, your input is needed. One of the things that sets UUs apart from other religions is that we are covenantal vs. creedal. Yet the Committee on Ministry (COM) recently found that most of our members were unfamiliar with our covenant. When asking for input on incorporating the covenant more fully into all that we do, COM learned that many people find it too long and hard to remember. All members are invited to participate in a session to create a covenant that is meaningful and easier to remember. A process called Appreciative Inquiry will be used to build on our Fellowship’s strengths. Using Zoom, members will meet with facilitators in small groups then share what they learn with the full group. To participate, sign up for one of the following dates and times: Saturday, October 16 from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM and Sunday, October 24 after the service from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM
