Group Leader: Jae Furman

Throughout the book Braiding Sweetgrass, Robin Wall Kimmerer writes about how her
experiences in traditional academic settings have been influenced by her Potawatomi heritage. She
highlights many of the values and principles you might hold precious in your own life such as
reciprocity, how something shared increases its value, the grammar of animacy, positive ways of
thinking about relationships, and combining individual strengths to build community, just to name a
few. This group will be meeting monthly at the Fellowship to take a deep dive into the book as a group,
discussing one chapter per month. To help get discussions started, one or two chapter-relevant prompt
questions will be distributed to group participants a few weeks before each meeting. At least, that is the
plan. We’ll see how the group evolves organically as we build this together.
