This talk explores the remarkable rise of the mindfulness movement in contemporary American life—its use in schools, workplaces, healthcare, and beyond—and contrasts that popular understanding with mindfulness as it functions within the Buddhist path. Drawing on insights from both Buddhist teachings and contemporary neuroscience, we’ll consider mindfulness not only as a way to manage stress but as a means of transforming consciousness and deepening our capacity for compassion and wisdom.
